Help - alarm system with faulty software

Had new house alarm installed last November after house fire destroyed the other one. It was paid for by our insurance company. We noticed a fault a while after it was put in as we could not set zones in parts of the house or turn off the beeping sound when setting it at night. The alrm installers have just done an annual service (seven months after installation approx) and provided us with a written report which states that the alarm system needs upgrading due to wrong software. We have now received a letter which states that they will get back to us with a quote for doing this work!

I thought under the sales of goods act that if we can prove that the system has a fault which should get a free repair? The system is only 7 months old and they've admitted in writing that it has a software fault (must have been present from day one I guess as the software has not been touched/upgraded). I know that if its later than six months we have to prove that it has a fault but surely they have just done that?

Help gratefully appreciated plus any template letters would be great  Working mum with two year old who doesn't get on PC much
