Question re credit file

I got hold of my Equifax credit file (using the free method) a couple of months ago. I cancelled it in plenty of time.

I'm now applying for a job where I'd need considerable criminal/financial vetting. I'd like to check everything is okay first - can I just apply for the file the same way as before and cancel again, or will they charge me because it's so soon? Should I apply via a different agency?

Also, how long does it take to get a file updated? The last time the file was out of date and I did request it be updated and got emails to that effect.

Thanks

You won't qualify for another free trial from Equifax but there's nothing to prevent you applying to Experian. (For help, see the *How to obtain credit reports* sticky above)

Plus Experian is the most widely used agency so you will get a fuller picture.

When you exhaust your free trials you can get postal reports for 2 quid.

  • I ordered a report from Experian back at the start of 2006 using their free trial, would I be able to get another one or should I just stump up the £2 and wait for it to arrive in the post?

No. You won't qualify for another free trial, but you can order online and your reports arrive by post within 4-6 days.
