I have just clicked (foolishly I know) on something which asked if i wanted to load something that was active (a link to a radio station I was listening to) onto my desktop. Not really knowing what this meant I did not see a problem.
It said something about sycnronising and it was too late to go back.
All the names on my desktop icons are in a blue box and things seem to be not working the same.
Is there a way to backtrack? I have tried to open Control Panel and look in My Computer and it just freezes my PC and all I can do then is to turn it off then by powering down.
I go into blind panic when anything untoward happens on my PC

if it is activeX and is for a radio station, it is probably a bit of s/w that will allow the web page to interface with the sound. It is probably ok.
While you are surfing, you may want to look at a product call retunil - the free edition. However it does not suit everyone http://www.returnilvirtualsystem.com/index_files/rvspersonal.htmGOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0 -
Hi bookdook
I am afraid that I don't understand what you are saying. Not very technical i am afraid
I have just managed to get rid of the radio station on the desktop and also the blue highlighting on the icon names. I right clicked on the desktop and went to the desktop tab and unchecked the webpage which seemed to be lurking there.
I still however can't open Control Panel to see if anyhting is lurking anywhere else. I can't say for sure whetehr Control panel was opening before I did this synchronisation as i have not had cause to use it for some time.
Any ideas?Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0 -
what i'm saying that the software probably just makes the radio play.
Don't worry about it. You won't find it in the control panel or start button. The program is an extra and interact with your web browser. It will probably do no harm.
It is difficult to backtrack and the only real way is time and date and to be honest that may not work. There is software that can track it, but you have to put that software on first.
To be sure user the Malware/Spyware sticky post on the top of the Technical forum page.GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0 -

It is not to clear what happened did u click on something on a webpage?
Can you using XP vista or windows 98?
Can you bring up the process monitor and see what is happening (either press
contrl- alt -delete, or click on the bottom bar and select task manager)0 -
If it was just an activex control from a trusted website it should be fine- sounds more like something else you've downloaded that's hogging resources or some sort of malware. I'd do a scan then try system restore. Check in msconfig what you have running in startup then google the results to see if anything is lurking there (also useful if your computer is starting up slowly so you can disable unwanted progs from running at startup- but google them first if you don't know what they are). Clean out your temp files with something like Ccleaner as well.
You can also go into internet options and delete all add ons and plug ins.Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0 -
Thanks all of you for your replies.
I'm afraid I had to dissapear last night but have had a further play round today and done a bit of tweaking.
To be totally honest I am not sure what it was that I clicked on. I had just come back from a holidy on Symi and was listening to Symi Radio and it seemed like a good idea to have a shortcut (or whatever it put there) on my desktop.
I seem to have got rid of it now but am still having issues with Control Panel. It will not open from the Start button - Control Panel route but I did manage to get into it by going to My Computer and then Control Panel.
Think it might be best if i stopped meesing with it now.
Pumpa - I will have a look at msconfig when I have more time.Thank you for this site :jNow OH and I are both retired, MSE is a Godsend0
