BT free evening & weekend call contract query - Switch to AOL package?

Options
I moved into a new property in the middle of May, and had the line reconnected by BT and was offered and accepted their free evening and weekend call package.

I am a totally new customer to BT, so understand I am locked into a 12 month contract on the line, but I have now received an offer from AOL for free calls anytime by just switching to their AOL Talk package, but keeping my line rental with BT.

I have read through the BT T&Cs and am totally confused by their terms. In some sections it talks about a 12 month renewable contract, but it others it talks about no minimum term.

If I was to accept the AOL offer and have them activate their AOL Talk package on the line (I would still be paying BT for their line rental), would I be liable to some form of clawback from BT for ending any call package contract early? Or would their package sit alongside the AOL package? (Not even sure this is possible:o )

I cant see any reason why you cant cps your calls to another supplier, and still stay on your BT Call Bundle, but what BT will make of it who knows.

If you cancel the bundle outright they will raise a termination charge.

You will get charged for the rest of the 12 month contract.

You have two 12 month contracts with BT:

    1. Line rental. (max £70 get out)

    2. Call package. (not sure of cost to break contract)

My advice is do not make any more changes for a year and then you should be out of contract, you may have to notify them about the call contract as it is a rolling contract renewed each year.

You will get a letter in the 11th month of the 12 month term reminding you the deal is coming to an end. When you get this letter, call BT and tell them you do not want the contract to automatically renew, and that you want to go onto the unlimited weekend plan (£11.75 per month). This is the lowest rental BT do.

Dont forget to sign up for eBilling on BT.com and request paperfree billing so you save £1.25 off your monthly line rental.

Also, set up direct debit to pay your BT bill so you dont get charged the £1.50 per month payment processing fee.

You dont have to cancel it until you have the window of opportunity to do so foc.

You can be on any BT option that you like and BT cant stop you CPS your calls. Some people have even been known to still pay BT,s Option 3 full rates after they have CPS their calls to another supplier.BT needless to say were quite happy to continue to charge them.:D

This is the bit I was unsure about, as I was hoping to leave the BT option 2 in place as it's not costing anything at the moment, and then cancel it when the 12 months are up and drop back to the option 1 package. But I was unsure if the AOL package would somehow affect this.

I think I will take up the AOL offer and leave BT as is, and then cancel BT option 2 when it comes up for renewal. If BT decide to charge any early termination because the packages clash, I will have to swallow the charge! But looking at it, I will easily make savings of over £2.70 a month (cost of BToption2 normally) with the AOL package, so this should off-set anything should BT decide that layering AOL over the top of their package is not within their terms. ( BT wouldn't try and charge in excess of this per month for an early exit would they!?)

Many thanks for all your help with this, it's greatly appreciated :)

Just make sure you do not tranfer your line rental.

I am still not sure you can opt out and go CPS as I thought that was why BT brought in the rolling yearly contract but I could be wrong.

I am on the weekend plan and aslo CPS to primus but I have no contract to break.
