Im flyin with Emirates from Birmingham to Osaka in November.
I have to change flights at Dubai and have a few hours stopover.
Will my luggage be transfered to my forward flight at dubai or will i have to collect it and recheck it in somewhere for the forward journey to osaka.
Never had to change flights before so i dont know how it works.

No, it's all automatic.
Depending on the level of chaos at Dubai by November, the bags will be marked "rapid transit".
It often seems like the bags have less trouble getting to the next flight than the passengers....0 -
Actually a sensible question, since it varies depending on the transit airport and some other factors.
In your situation, when you arrive at check-in in Birmingham you ask the agent to check your bags through to Osaka (unless for some reason you want them in Dubai). Then you forget about them until the end of your journey, when you collect them.
Oh: unless you choose your seats on-line before travelling you can ask the Birmingham check-in to allocate seats for both flights. And only the check-in staff can give you an emergency exit seat.
BTW if you change 'planes in the USA, you have to collect your bags and take them through customs and immigration before checking in for your onward flight.0 -
Thanks all, had visions of my bags still sat on the carousel at dubai wating for me to pick them up whilst i was at the carousel at osaka, doh!!0

This is not the case anymore.
Delta allow passengers to select an emergency exit seat online, and Emirates allow passengers to request a specific exit row seat by phone (not sure if they are available online also), which will then be allocated by the agent if it is available. In both cases you can check in online.Gone ... or have I?0 -
En-route to West Palm Beach last summer we changed in New York and we had to collect our bags and recheck them. Even though it was still with the same airline, Continental. I have flown to Dubai with Emirates and I don't know what they do re connecting flights, but they are very very professional so I would imagine they would do it for you.0

I have told the OP what happens with Emirates when changing 'planes in Dubai. This is something I have done many times. The USA is different, because of the particular security rules that their government applies.0 -
Excuse me for giving my opinion. You were not completely correct as Dmg24 pointed out. That was my opinion based on my experiences. So because you commented no one else should! If you read my post you would have seen that I said clearly that I was not sure re Emirates, and I suggested that they would most likely do it for you.0

no... dmg pointed out a correction about emergency seat allocation.
your point about what happened to you in the US is irrelevant as you do immigration and customs at your 1st point of entry to the States regardless of mode of transport or carrier.0 -
Can you not read? Sorry to be rude but I stated.
"I have flown to Dubai with Emirates and I don't know what they do re connecting flights, but they are very very professional so I would imagine they would do it for you."
Did you miss that?0 -
