Another way to crack LastMinute.com's 'Top Secret' hotels. if you are prepared to do a little bit of work, that we have found works especially with the London Hotels
dont use the handy top secret london hotels link use the black box to pick your destination etc then choose to only see the top secret hotels and pick a hotel that you think is in the right price bracket and will be in the right area for you
click continue and lastminute will suggest its three favourite restaurants near your hotel and it actually names them and 9 times out of ten with the London hotels the first resaturant as long as it is under 0.2km from the hotel is actually the hotels own restaurant and even if it isnt google the nearest restaurant and you can have the real address
if you then decide you dont like that hotel go back do it with the next one in the list0 -
The guide is good but the part about Youth Hostels is misleading. The YHA is not a British organisation but only English (and possibly Welsh?). It is the English equivalent of the SYHA, http://www.syha.org.uk/ which owns a network of youth hostels in Scotland. Membership of the SHYA also gives membership of the IYHF, the international youth hostelling organisation, and access to youth hostels worldwide.
getting your Global IYHF membership through Scottish Youth Hostels ( SYHA )
is A Lot Cheaper , at only £9 for an Adult (compared to is it £16 with YHA)
http://www.syha.org.uk/membership/information.aspx
which any EC resident is entitled to , and you can easily get on-line.
Never leave home without it,
& Happy Hostelling0 -

Just a word of warning NEVER book hotels using Book In Hotels as I've very recently had a terrible experience with them. They are very incompetent and have no customer care skills whatsoever and management are just as bad. Even if they appear cheaper than other companies DO NOT use them as it just will not be worth the hassle just to save a few quid.0

I've just booked one of these. Used the tips on MSE and ended up copying and pasting the details for the TS one and the one I thought it was and comparing them. They were almost identical just moved around a bit. Started booking and then noticed that they also had a third night free offer so as I wanted six nights I booked it in two seperate bookings and got two free nights (one with each booking) rather than one night free when booking them altogether. Also went through Quidco for 7% cashback.
Started at just under £400 for the named hotel, went down to £325 for the TS way and then to £250 when booked to get the two free nights (with £17.22 cashback will be down to £233 or less than £40 per night) which for a 4* star hotel in August is cheap by anyones standard.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200

Hi,
Just read the advice on finding hotels. I would recommend bookings.com as the best all round site (better for foreign hotels than in the UK, although the UK is catching up). Bookings.com always seems to offer the best deal going online (although a phone call direct to the chosen hotel may get a better offer). And its no fee booking service is superb. Also its reviews are genuine (see below). One word of advice: the default search criteria within any location is “most popular” – change to “best reviewed”, much more useful.
Beware Tripadvisor’s reviews unless there are a lot for a hotel; the site has recently been exposed as being exploited by hotels who have been writing their own reviews!0 -
Thanks mikeabbotts, I'll remember that for next timeThanks to all who post compsITV winners membersclub#20

Hiya, this week's Tip mentioned a B&B in Sardinia for £25 a night. I don't suppose anyone knows what this place is, or how I might find it? I've not managed to find anywhere near that cheap so far.
Cheers
