ok mrs flybynight has a ford ka.. paid for outright. in pretty good nick on a 53 plate. she has decided ti is jinxed and a new car must be purchased befroe the warrantee runs out on "satan car". so we will be looking for a car for a similar amount as we will get for hers (give or take a bit)
i have bgeen offered an elderly ( 10 yr old ) volvo by a mate for nothing (its running poorly). is my best bet to sell her car privately and part ex the volvo for a new car, or to decline the volvo and just part ex her car?

Whatever you decide you are better off selling her car privately. You will get a better price than through a dealer part-ex.
I would also try and put the Volvo in part-ex and see what they offer. Then say if not part-ex how much would the deal be worth. I think you would still get at least £300 - £500 on the Volvo and maybe more if you are good at haggling. The dealer will just put it out through the Auction and will only be interested in closing a sale. If that means giving you a few bob for a clapped out Volvo then I am sure he will.0 -
i was thinking pretty much that.
was also consiering virgin cars as they currently have a 1500 minimum part ex going onsaving for more holidays0 -
be careful of these offers. when i enquired years ago at vauxhall when they had min £2000 part exchange it only applied if you took out a finance package with them. Read the small print.Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way
