in Credit cards
Hi folks I just applied for a halifax card but was refused. I found my credit score on zopa. Which is 306 I have NO loans or debts apart from mortage. The only thing I think of is an unpaid orange phone bill that was disputed due to contract running out!!
Would even a small amount put my credit score so low. Help I need to borrow money quick and on the cheap.
Thanks

Your lack of credit history counts against you, and what you do have is negative. You should read up on credit ratings (see the link in the blue box above). There is no quick fix.
Does your bank offer a 0% credit card - they are much more likely to accept your application as they know you without having only your credit score to look at. If not and your need is urgent can you borrow from a relative?0 -
You need to find out exactly what your credit file is saying, CreditExpert.co.uk is very good and I believe they do offer a free-trial, then starting clearing it up, add comments, write to companies to dispute bad marks.
Yes talk to your bank, they are most likely to approve you, in addition even if the credit card isn't favourable in terms, it will still help improve your credit rating as long as you keep it in good standing.
Thirdly, there is no such thing as an official credit score, companies create scores based on different things and I'd imagine Zopa is probably more harsh than any bank.0 -

Natwest is my bank. How do you rate their card?0

If Natwest is your bank, don't hold your breathe.
I am with Natwest, I had a score of about 450, I have a £1k overdraft with them, a current account with Maestro and they have pre-approved me for £7.5K loan but they declined me for a Credit Card even after I appealed.
They just simply said that my credit score wasn't high enough.
I have NO defaults OR CCJ's just didn't hold much credit.
So, you'll be lucky to get one from them.

Cheers for replies. Does it make a difference if you physically apply at the branch rather than phone or online?Ta0

Hi guys, got appointment at natwest and got the OK FOR A gold card with no problems £20000 limit!!
Bit unexpected considering my credit score but shows what a bit of the personal touch can do.
Please if anyone knows more about T/T transfers would be greatly appreicated.
Many Thanks0
