Tolls in France

Hi All,
I am going to France tonight, driving down to the alps for a week and a half.
Just wondering if anyoe can adise me as to how much the tolls are for the motorways in France, as I need to know how much money (Euros) to have to hand.
Are they charged per miles, as looking at the directions pulled off of the net, some of the toll/ partial tolls roads we will be travelling on we will only cover something like 0.2 miles, I think the longest is about 111 miles in one go.
would be very interested on your experiences of French tolls.
Cheers

Hi,
we've driven on holidays in France for a few years now, and so far have only paid tolls on the m'ways near Paris....
BUT if you use the Viamichelin route planner to do a route plan of your intended journey, it will tell you how much the tolls would be 'if' you were charged them all0 -
Tolls are payable on most autoroutes in France and you will find that they can be quite expensive for a long journey. However, you can always take to the 'green routes' for part of the distance. The upside is that French motorways (except around Paris) are a joy to drive on as there is so much less traffic and the airs and cafes along the route have excellent food which makes stopping a pleasure0

I recently drove the from South France to Calais (about 1150km), mostly on toll roads, but not completely (about 90% I think). It cost me about €60 in tolls.
This page: http://www.autoroutes.fr/en/homepage.html can work out exactly what the toll will be given a starting point and destination.
There are sometimes queues for paying in cash. The quickest way to pay (except for a Telepeage badge, which is only worthwhile for frequent users) is to use a credit/debit card. If you have a Nationwide card this works a treat as you just get charged the exact toll amount at the wholesale exchange rate (no fees). However, if your card has a minimum per-transaction charge it's probably best to pay cash.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
Tahnks for this Mrs7ones.
The best wbsite I have found for directions.
Not as bad as I thought it was going to be.
Cheers

We must just be lucky then, cos like I say, it was only travelling around Paris that has ever cost us
(Calais to Brittany didn't cost a cent!!)0
