building insurance for an empty 2nd property

We are refurbishing this property and the building insurance ends soon, we had such a job finding a company that would insure it in the first place, now they have decided they won't be renewing the insurance. We've made no claim on it, the tenants came out last year and it is having improvements done.

Anyone any ideas?

Approach an insurance broker ... empty properties undergoing refurbishment - should still get some cover, but probably on a restricted basis, eg., fire only.

If a contractor is carrying out the remedial work - check they have contractors all risks to cover their work until completed.

    Hope this helps ...

Thank you, we went through the AA last time. Quite an expensive premium we had to pay. Husband is doing the work, so will take a bit of time and so will be empty a while:rolleyes:

Still stick with my advice about a broker - but narrow that down to one who is used to the construction industry - yellow pages in your area?

But googled this using "self build" as the key:

Self-build site insurance is essential for anyone planning an extension, renovation, conversion or new build.

Our online quotation process enables you to get a quote for all our products by completing just one simple form.

I have NO knowledge of them - so NO way a recommendation - just the first on the list that looked possible, ok - but give them a try or google some more using "self build".

Apologies for "advertising" my own company here if it caused offence or broke rules. Just trying to help out "joe public" who might not know where to go for this sort of thing.

Whilst I realise your intentions were good please can I remind you of the board rules namely:

    ADVERTISING

This site is free from advertising. Posts on any board considered to be advertising goods, services and/or companies will be removed. We also do not allow advertising via PM

Examples of this can include anything from a specific sales post or a link to your own website in which you attempt to sell something to someone offering their holiday home to forum members. Unfortunately we cannot allow any advertising of any description no matter how honourable the intention.

For this reason I have deleted your post, if you should have any queries then please contact me via pm ;)

  • Maypole - we are in a similar situation at the moment. Be really useful to know what did you do in the end and which firm you went with?
