14 months of underestimated bills - big bill waiting

Thanks for your suggestions/comments i'll take them all on board.
To be honest, so far the leccy company have been quite good about it - not sure how long that will last!
They agreed when i contacted them that it seemed too high and asked that i callback in week to give another reading before they reissue the bill. - I'm not expecting much from that though - given that my most recent 24hr reading when extrapolated accross the year seems to be about right!
The only other thing is that today (17th) i recived a letter from the company saying that "they'd had trouble reading my meter" and asking for an actual reading to be supplied.
Now the strange thing about this was that it was dated the 11th (4 days before i first called them) yet it took 6 days to arrive - just seems to much of a coincidence.
I called them and they confirmed that until the 2nd July 08 nobody had tried to call to read the meter - they dont have records yet between the 2nd - and 11th. which means that they could only have tried to call over a 9 day period and to my knowledge they didnt.
I doubt that it makes any difference but it just seems a little coincidental thats all.
I'll repost when i know how it turned out.
Thanks again

I had a similar situatioon about two years ago, but a little more complicated. Basically I had been imputing my readings online - but for one of my utilities the readings had not been actioned due to an issue with who owned the meter.
During this dispute it emerged that the supplier has an obligation to read the meter at least once in a certain period.
I would ask tye supplier what there policy was on taking their own readings and ask them to supply you with their readings over the period. This may go someway to reducing the burden on yourself and give you some negotiating room.
Tell them it will cause you undue hardship to pay back anything other than a small increase and make sure yu are on the best tariff possible. No Links in Signatures by Site Rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
You could ask for the catch up bill to be billed at older rates as this is when you would have used it. Also if they have made no attempt to read the meter you might not have to pay back all the 18 months of ctch up, only the last 12 months.
Who supplies you?“Official Company Representative

!8 months or 14 months?
The rule for demanding 12 months arrears is only if you have not received a bill of any kind.
The OP had bills based on estimated readings.(which he concedes he should checked and corrected)0
