Train to Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital

((hugs))) to you, your daughter and your family. We also had a rather cruel oncologist so I can sympathise there.
Is it not cheaper to drive to London? Not sure about parking once you're there but most hospitals have free or reduced parking for cancer patient. You could always park just outside of London and train the rest of the way an it would still be cheaper.
Infact your daughter may be eligible for a disabled badge- I know my mum had one when she had cancer. It might be worth investigating with Macmillian.
Good luck with the meeting- I hope you get the best news!Competition Challenge 2007 - Win your internet fees back in prizes = £349.87/£1560 -

Alternatively, if you take the return train at 20:03 (arrives 21:27) rather than 18:33 the cost comes down to £160. If you take the return train at 20:30 (arrives 22:07) the cost comes down to £140. Even if you and your daughter can't wait for the later train, perhaps your husband, son and DIL could get the later train and take advantage of the cheaper fares?0

That is a brilliant idea - thank you!something missing0

Hiya
What time is the apptmt? Could you get to Nottingham?
Do we need to look at all adult tickets or are their children tickets too?
I'm not too bad at pricing so let me know.
Thinking of you at this time

sorry I know this is off topic but has your daughter ever been in full time employment??
there is a trust called the Frederic Andrew Convalescent Trust that provides grants for convalescent care or holidays to get over it all... she certainly sounds like she could do with a break after everything she is going through. It's administered by a solicitor's firm called Andrew and Co in Lincoln their number is 01522 512123 you ring up and ask for an application form - they really are a lovely trust.
Have you also tried breaking the journey? Changing in Peterborough or something?? Sometimes it helps with reducing the costs.
sorry I wasn't much cop on the original question but do please look into the Convalescent Trust... (I work for the firm mentioned so I know exactly how much relief it brings to ladies that have been poorly)0 -

I just wanted to mention that I worked in the Marsden in Fulham Road for a year in an administrative capacity a while ago. The Marsden really is wonderful and is the best place your daughter could possibly be referred to. Your daughter will get fantastic support and the most knowledgeable and up to date treatment and care that there is available anywhere. Nothing there is too much trouble for the staff.
Regards the suggestion to drive to the Marsden there is no patient or visitor parking anywhere at the Fulham Road site at all - sorry to throw cold water over that suggestion, just stating the facts.
Your journey from KingsX to the hospital would be a nightmare by public transport, so a black taxi would be your best bet. Unfortunately they are rather costly, but they WILL take your daughter in her wheelchair without bother.
Best of luck to your daugher and to you all.

Thank you so much to you all. We have decided to book two saver rooms at Battersea Travelodge and drive down there the night before then get a black cab (under 2 miles) to hospital the next day. This way Becks will not be too tired and we won't miss the appointment due to travel delays as we could walk there if we had to!
Sallyrsm - thank you so much for the info - we are only half hour drive from Lincoln! Will look into it first thing Monday morning as I think the more treats etc she has to look forward to the easier it will be to get through all of this. Yesterday her brother took her for a ride to Skegness and she said she focused on looking forward to that when she had a rather uncomfortable MRI on Wednesday so every little helps!
Snowy Owl - thank you for your ressurance. Yes, we have learnt that Prof Brada at RM is the leading expert in treatment of brain tumours and that combined with my daughter's unbeatable spirit and determination will give her the very best chance.
Just to give you an idea of how she is dealing with this with her usual character and humour, we took her swimming the other day (since learnt this is big no no when on chemo:() The lifeguard banged her head on hoist and apologised profusely and Becky replied with a laugh "That's ok, it's only a brain tumour - don't feel bad about it!" The poor lad was absolutely mortified but he was laughing about it later.something missing0 -
Becky was it full-time employment and is on sick leave. She had just got promotion to an Independence Tutor at a college for young adults with learnng difficulties. Unfortunately not been there a year so only gets SSP but she is planning on getting back there as soon as she can.something missing0
