Foreign correspondent is right that many dogs that are in rescue do not have issues or lack history and not all are mongrels. I think some people are a bit snobby and want to boast about there pedigree/designer pup and some people buy puppies because rescues would be unlikely to home a dog with them.
In my post I said "sometimes" they have baggage, because some do.
But happily not all.
I had my reasons for buying a persian - I wanted a cat that had the best chance of being happly living indoors.
Now we live in a village & hes like a feral cat:rotfl: Just joking:D But he loves going out;)
I love the "breed" so much, that any cat I ever own will be a persian. Nothing to do with snobbish, but a love of a certain temperament.0 -

My comments were not aimed at you MrsE, i was mearly agreeing with FC that its a common misconception that you can only get mongrels and dogs with issues from rescues. I certainly don't think that everyone with a pedigree cat/dog is a snob, afterall i own 2 pedigree dogs. However there are people that do think that having a pedigree animal (or latest designer x) is a status symbol like a designer bag.
I love the charateristics of greyhounds and also seeing myself owning more of that breed in future, so can totally understand why people like pedigrees. Generally people just need to be more responsible owners, consider what might be on offer at a rescue and if they still choose to buy a puppy, then be careful about the type of breeding establishment their funding.
Quite a few times I have seen people in pet stores carrying the pup and buying the stuff for it, even the collar & lead  Now somehow i can't see that they will of done much research if they didn't think to buy the things a dog needs before buying it.0 -
I have 2 rescue dogs which are both pedigree and one even came with the kennel club papers. I had my little girl neutered as I feel there are too many unwanted dogs. I don't think I'd ever get a puppy again. My dogs are fantastic and just settled in like they'd been here years.
The one thing about reputable rescues is you're vetted and dogs won't be given to people that work full time so they're not left on their own all day. But u can buy a puppy and leave it for 8 hours a day.0 -

Hes a big [STRIKE]red[/STRIKE] ginger persian with a massive attitude.
His real name is Cotzees Tango:eek: (or something like that, a bit of a mouthful but thats whats hes regiestered as.
We decided when he was a [STRIKE]baby [/STRIKE]kitten that he looked like a teddy bear, (all soft & fluffy & the same colour) so we called him Teddy Bear or Teddy. Over the years as hes become a [STRIKE]man[/STRIKE] adult cat its become Ted & it really suits him:D0 -

This cracks me up cos its people like those who are easily conned into parting with big money for a mongrel cos it has been given the name "somethingdoodle" - often a cocker crossed with a poodle. £1000 or more for a pedigree isnt that expensive - 5/6 hundred quid for a "somethingdoodle" - you have been had0 -
I adopted my second rescue dog in October having lost my previous one 3 yrs earlier. both were 8 yes old when adopted and barney my first rescue dog was a truely wonderful companion and family member during the 10 yrs he was with me. and Boo boo is settling in nicely with me being her 4th Mummy in her 8 yrs ........................I had pedigree cairn's as a gal and they were wonderful family pets but as an adult when choosing to have a companion of the 4 legged kind I realised there are soooo many dogs that need a loving home and have so much to give I decided to take this route, Barney came from http://www.woodgreen.org.uk/ and boo boos came from http://www.brook-farm.org.uk/I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0

People are all different and have different desires. Some can afford to indulge these desires and whilst they can other people will be only to pleased to supply them and pocket the money.
Personally I could never justify giving money to a breeder whilst so many dogs find themselves in rescue centres - besides 'Rescue Dogs Love You More'.Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -
