What's the best wireless router?

Options
Hello, Please can you help me! I have already purchased a Belkin Wireless Router. It's not a great connection at all. Please can you suggest one that will work really well it my Inspiron 6400. I am with Virgin and the box they use for the internet is made by Scientific Atlanta.

At present due to Belkin being so slow, I am plugged into the socket and not appreicating the whole laptop thing!!!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Buffalo WHR G54s is a good call for regular network useage, if you need an ADSL connection Netgear are generally preferred for higher sync speeds, and if you want an 802.11n router I've no idea :) fwiw though I use 3 WRT54GL's and they're great.

but your issue could be something completely different. unless you know why the connection's slow then it could b down to the inspiron as much as the router.

So what speedtest result do you get when connected via Ethernet and what speed do you get when connected via wireless?

The best wireless router is the one one your ISP suggests. If you get a line problem or speed issue the first thing they blame is your router because it is not the one they specified.

If you have a configuration anomaly, they they walk way and say it is not one of the models they suggested and you are on your own.

hehehe.... not true at all but hey, there's never that much difference i spose...

For wireless speed, at least with g, the buffalos and (older model) linksys routers are good. For adsl sync the Netgears are usually recommended (presumably a specific model but I never cared enough to take much notice). For general throughput i've no idea, and for wireless reliability well, that's usually an isue with the client more than the router but nevermind.

Maybe you'd be better off asking over at thinkbroadband where they know their stuff: http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=multiuser
