Thinking of buying this laptop

My wife has an base model Inspiron 6000 (albeit with double memory), and my brother recently purchased one for the kids with standard 256 memory. No complaints...although my brother's is getting a bit tempremental about turning off the wireless network. For what both sets of people use it for - internet surfing, graphics packages & watching DVDs, they do the job just fine Personally, at present I don't think they are the best value laptop around, but they're not bad value : don't get sidetracked by the views of power-users who need something more meaty hence assume everyone else must do as well - it won't grind to a halt because it only has 256M and a Celeron.

One big advantage of the 6000 over the cheaper Dells, and also over pretty much every comprably priced laptop, is that it has a widescreen - this is great for watching DVDs. (The converse to this is that it's very definitely a luggable - I wouldn't fancy carrying it around on a routine basis!)

Keep watching...Dell prices bounce up and down on a day by day basis, as do the deals (double memory, free printer etc). Also, there quite often seems no correlation between what's advertised in the press versus what's on the website. All you can do is keep checking, and hope that they don't drop the price the day after you buy.
