I've just reserved seats for 3 of us on a Flybe flight from Doncaster to Jersey in July at a cost of £6 per person using my credit card to pay resulting in only ONE transaction. Admittedly I wasn't attentive enough to notice the final figure charged to my credit card of £53.94 (cost of 6 booked seats of £36). Flybe then charged an additional £17,94 cr card surcharge for the priviledge. Their website states that a charge of £2.99 per person per flight is applicable which is a surchage of just under 60% for my one and only transaction!!! I would have been happy paying mor familiar and possibly ' normal' and acceptable surcharge of say 1-3% but consider this 60% surcharge to be a complete rip off and a good money spinner for Flybe. Can't belive any cr card company is charging companies this sort of fee. I'll not do it again and may not ever book with Flybe again.

I doubt you'll get much sympathy on here to be honest, the whole whinging about credit card surcharges on a £6 flight thing gets on a few peoples goats.
P.S What's an Annie?0 -
Have you priced the flights up with another company?
I found this on a flight comparison website:
Cheap Flights from Doncaster to Jersey from £82
Compare the prices of some of the very cheapest airfares from Doncaster to Jersey (JER) starting from £82 for return flights. All these low fares from Doncaster airport (DSA) are under £210 and include taxes.
which even allowing for the £2.99 per person per flight surcharge for credit card payment makes the flights you booked look very very cheap.
I do appreciate what you're saying but that is how low cost airlines make their money - debit/credit card charges, charging if you don't book in on-line, charging for checked-in luggage etc etc.
A lot of these airlines, including RyanAir, charge per person per journey for credit cards.
As you say, the Flybe website did state that this charge was applicable.
You did have the option of not booking those particular flights with Flybe.
Rather than being unhappy at the additional £17.94 you've been charged I'd see if I could find any flights cheaper than £53.94. Try using the Flightchecker on here, I don't think you'll find seats to Jersey from Doncaster at anywhere as cheap as you've paid (£53.94 return for 3 people).
Maybe that would make you feel better.
To me, it's the TOTAL cost of flights, including taxes, debit/credit card charges etc, that really matters.0 -

Agree completely with Sam Bee. You have got the flights from Doncaster to Jersey, a distance of over 350 miles for the grand overall cost of £17.98 return fare each irrespective of what that's made up of. It's a bargain! You could have got them for £12 return each but chose to pay by a method which is made punitive by the carrier to make some money. You won't complain that you taking a flight off them for £6 is you ripping them off!! I agree it's a money making dodge but relax. If it wasn't for LCCs we'd nearly all be a lot worse off.
I'd like to know what an Annie is too.0 -
Perhaps I misunderstood the OP, but I though the six pounds per person was simply the fee for reserving specific seats, and that air fares had been paid separately. Since air passenger duty and airport charges would normally be payable, Flybe would stand to make a hefty loss if they charged just six pounds per seat.0

Actually Voyager, having read through the initial post, I'm not sure if the OP meant she'd booked flights or reserved seats on a flight that she'd previously booked.
If the former, my comments stand.
If it's the latter, I would tend to agree with the OP that a charge per person per journey is excessive.
Unless for medical reasons, would anyone bother paying to reserve seats on such a short flight?
Hopefully, the OP will clarify.0 -

Well, if it was just a reserving seats charge then my comments don't stand, but it's not clear.
Still want to know what an Annie is please!0
