Problems accessing some websites with firefox

Options
When I use IE on my laptop (using wireless broadband) I can access all sites with no problems. I prefer to use firefox but since about three days ago, firefox won't access particular sites. For example, it won't access facebook and it won't let me run a google search (although it will let me go to the google page).

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this might have happened or what I can do to resolve it?

Thanks.

Have you tried clearing the cookies and/or reinstalling firefox?

I have cleared the cookies. Have not tried reinstalling firefox - will try that when I get home from work.

    Hi,

That does seem very unusual and sounds like a fault with either the way the cookies/temp files are being stored (as stated in above post) or some incorrect settings. The easiest way to overcome this would simply uninstall firefox, opting to remove all the remnants, then start a fresh. If you want to keep your bookmarks then simply drag them from the firefox window onto your desktop and visa versa.

    Hope this helps!

Do you use a Proxy server to access the internet?

    If you do then>

go to Preferences > Network > LAN Settings

Just below the box where you type in the address of your proxy tick the check box that says

"Use this proxy server for all Protocols"

Ok all the screens and close firefox.

    Open Firefox and try again.

    Should fix it.

    Thank you everyone.

Removing firefox and reinstalling did the trick. A simple but perfect solution.

Ok, the problem is back. It was fine last night when I reinstalled firefox but today I can't access the sites again. I think it must be something to do with my security because I was messing around with the comodo firewall - I had disabled it yesterday to see if that would help solve the problem and then this morning I put i back on and I can't access the same sites (turning it off again now isn't helping). I have comodo and AVG. But everything works fine with IE, just not with firefox.....

Any more ideas to help me?

    Thanks
