House plants- the bigger (and cheaper), the better

I get big house plants by growing them, feeding them in summer, repotting them in spring and propagating them in spring/summer.
My spider plants have taken 2 years to grow massive by this method.
Places to get house plants:
1. If you work in an office or a school steal the babies of spider plants or take cuttings.
2. Ask friends or on freecycle for babies or cuttings
3. Ikea in Warrington. You need to repot the small ones asap as most Ikea plants have the roots already coming out of the pot.
4. Ebay
5. Lots of plants like Busy Lizzies and Coleus can be kept as house plants. So go to your local DIY shed i.e. Homebase or B&Q and see if they have any reduced in trays then plant them up in pots.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

How large do want them and how long can you wait?
Try sowing some orange pips, avacado stones will produce a tree to take overNumerus non sum0 -
Try Asda, They have had three plants for a fiver or something similar. Focus have a large selection in store at the mo, big and small. Not too sure of the prices though.0

Sometimes houseplants get too big for people to keep when they have reached ceiling height. My daughter had to rehome a weeping fig for that reason. And I have seen several adverts for swiss cheese plants that have outgrown their welcome.
Perhaps you could put a cards in shop windows or supermarket notice boards offering a good home to outgrown plants, or try Freecycle.0 -
Have you tried the old favourite...Wilkinsons?
I bought an amazing banana tree 8.99, a grape vine ,edible variety for £6.99, reduced to £3.99 a massive parlour fern for £6.99 and bargain of bargains a streliza Bird Of Paradise which is approx 2yrs old for £2.99 !!
At ours in west yorks they are selling off the larger plants frequently as the staff don't seem to be able to water them properly so you can often get incredible bargains0 -
I would have to go with Ikea as well, given you want to buy large and seem to need them now rather than wait for them to grow. They have a very large and good quality selection and in varying states of growth to suit all pockets. They usually have Coconut Palms which are quite cheap, Weeping Figs and Parlour Palms. They usually have Dragon Plants but you would have to buy the big ones rather than the smaller ones as it would take forever to grow! I also believe the Dragon Plants and Parlour Palms are good at taking toxins out of the air as well.0
