My pc recently had a new cd rewriter installed cos the old one went kaput (pc still under extended warranty). When my son went to back up his files the create cd program is not recognising the new writer (it will play cd's though) Anyway after lots of time spent on the phone to tech help we have been told to reformat our computer to see if it is a software problem, if that dosent work they are going to send out the engineer again. Problem is we cant back up the files cos cd not working. I do have a file which is shared by my pc and laptop. Can find it on my pc but have searched my laptop and cant find it on there, can anyone tell me how to create a new one so I can send these files to my laptop so I can reformat my pc???????

Usually the cd writing software manufacturer will have a support file on the website, this file can be downloaded and installed to update the supported cd rw list.
What cd rewriter and software is it ?.
To transfer files, you can buy a crossover ethernet cable and run it between the two pcs, you can then set it up to transfer fies between the two pcs.
Or, dpending on the file size, use a usb memory stick.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
If it's Nero Burning Rom, go to 'Recorder' and click 'Choose Recorder'
Select your new CD RW Drive and you'll be on your way, I think! lol0 -
You could buy a network adaptor for the desktop:

And a crossover cable:

And just link the two computers together.0
