Why are flight to Greek islands always at some ungodly hour?
and why do the hotels nearly all say "The week starts 1200 Saturday" so you have to pay extra, if your lucky, then wait till the early hours to fly home?

I think it all depends which airport you are using. I have had decent day flights to many places in Greece from Doncaster and Manchester.0

..if you think the flight is badly timed, you won't believe how long a travel company can keep you hanging around if you have a ferry crossing too,we ended up at the airport 3 hours before we needed to coming home (its all in the small print of course).Fly independant next time we have a ferry crossing if we can. Also don't forget to ask if its a direct flight.0

Olympic Airlines flies from Heathrow and most flight times are sensible. BA flies to Athens. I used them this year. The 1st flight of the morning got me to Greece on time to get to the ferry.
Try here for accomodation: -

I flew with firstchoice a couple of weeks ago to Crete. My flight was 2 in the morning and i arrived there at 6. All i wanted to do was go to bed but thats kinda hard to do when you've just arrived in Malia!
But i agree, the flight times to tend to be unusual, although when i flew to kavos last year i arrived there at 12 in the afternoon, it was very convinient. I think its just a matter of keep looking!

The reason Greek and Turkish flights tend to be in the middle of the night is that those airports are happy to have flights flights and landing and taking off when their residents are trying to sleep and many other airports in Europe simply close or limit flights at those times, and secondly the flights are longer than to Spain Portugal and Italy and two 4 hour flights fit nicely into the night schedule, allowing the airline to operate two days flights, one around 0800 and another in the afternoon to closer destinations for which they can charge daytime supplements!0

Try looking at Travel Republic, they guarantee the lowest prices and operate from all airports. I booked a 2009 flight to Zante with them, £200 cheaper than using a Travel Agents."Dogs come when they are called. Cats take a message and get back to you" :j :j0

Sorry, should have made it clear i ment on package holidays wher you just have to take the flight offered. Thanks anyway0

I recently booked a package holiday through Travelcare. Once you have chosen a destination each hotel or apartement has an `alternative flights to this accommodation` link.
For instance flying to Lesvos next thursday (24/7) this link gives a choice of 09:15 and 14:00 departures from Gatwick. the 14:00 was substantially cheaper too!
Been doing greek island packages for some years, nearly always end up departing before 8:00
