working tax credit

Anyone got any feedback on claiming if you start work. Is it problematic or straightforward are they easy to contact?

If you give the helpline a call, they will tell you the procedure and also send you an application pack.

There used to be a 'fast track' system whereby the office that dealt with your Jobseekers Allowance or Income Support expedited the application, but I can't find reference to this system anywhere so it may no longer exist. If you are dealing with one of these offices, it can't hurt to ask.

Best way to make sure the claim goes through quickly is to double check your form and make sure you haven't missed any questions or tick boxes that apply. Also very importantly, when you give you new employers name and address on the application form make sure it is the address where you pay will be dealt with. Large employers often have a payroll department, if so give this address. Delays happen when they write to your employer for information and the letter bounces between desks before getting lost.

    Hope this helps!

Are you currently receive JSA or income support? If so your adviser at the job centre can fast track your claim. However if you're already receiving child tax credit you can claim WTC over the phone and it's done super fast - you need the PAYE number from your new employer.
