Nissan Micra 'Keyless' fob

I have a Nissan Micra that has a keyless (might be called Smart?) gadget that I have had since the car was new - and has suddenly stopped working.

Each time I go to the car and press the button on either the drivers door or boot, nothing happens, I have to keep trying the doors until it clicks - I could use the key on the passenger door if it didnt work at all.

Has anyone else had to replace on of these (I assume there isnt a battery in it anywhere?) and if so was it expensive?

I have had a look on ebay and it looks as if there are more than one type and I am a bit worried about whether I would be able to get it programmed (not a technical person!).

Can anyone offer any advice please?

Thanks in advance

Usually there is a battery in them! Personally never had one that doesn't have a battery!
If you've got your handbook for the vehicle it will usually tell you how to change the battery and what type of replacement battery you need, usually the "hearing aid" type which most supermarkets sell.
Otherwise call in at your local Nissan dealer, they'll probably do it for you if you buy the battery from them.

your going to say i am mad but i will post this tip as i have had a few cars with the same fault ....

if your able bodied move the car by pushing it round the corner ! . i go out to lots of breakdowns with key fobs not working , it usually turns out to be radio interference from mobile phone masts and (this is the mad bit) wireless doorbell units . have a look about for any that have there rubber button covers missing . water can get in and cause the doorbell unit to transmit continually , the unit also transmits on the same frequency ..

Can't be definate but all the remote keyless systems I've come accross use a battery.

    2 points to bear in mind but I can't be specific to your Nissan but this does appy to sister company Renault;

1 Don't leave the unit for more than 1 hr without the battery installed no matter how low the battery is. The coding will be lost and even a new battery will not restore it. It will then need reprogramming at the dealer.

2 Don't buy a 2nd hand fob, often these cannot be reprogrammed even at the main agent as they are not "rewriteable"

I was quoted £170 for a replacement keyless remote and its reprograming by Renualt a few weeks ago:eek:

Most modern cars seem similar, differing from a few years ago when it was a simple matter of holding the fob buttons down for a few seconds in a certain sequence to reset the unit:T
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
