Can anyone recommend a commercial photo printing service where I can upload pictures for printing. I'm looking to have a small number of large format prints made, and of course I'm also looking for value for money.
Thanks

photobox
Photobox are good quality at a ok price. You can try them first free.
It also rates the quality of the image when enlarging. Useful for gauging suitability for bigness.
Some of the cashback websites (greasy palm etc) offer money back and have various special offers on.

If I were you I'd steer clear of Pixmania.
I've just placed an order for two jigsaw puzzles and was promised 18 iPoints as I went through checkout, but then after going through checkout I was told that I would get 0 iPoints. I sent them an email about this and 9 days later had not received a reply. And that was only the start of it.
They charged the order to my credit card immediately, and yesterday I looked at "my account" on their website, only to be told that I had no current orders. I hadn't received a confirmation email either. So I emailed them, pointing out that I had already been charged for the order and asking them to reinstate it if it had indeed been lost (as well as reminding them about the iPoints). This time they got back to me quickly but all they did was tell me that the order hadn't gone through and I should go back to the site and place it again. They completely ignored the point I'd made about having already been charged.
I've seen other negative comments about their customer service too. They're France-based and, although British law should apply since they're selling into the UK, apparently they hide behind French law. Not sure that credit card protection applies either.
I've also used Photobox and Snapfish. Both fine, though Snapfish have taken a long time to respond to my email queries about MemoryBook formatting. I've had a simple order of prints from them (no problem) but have only just been able to place the MemoryBook order so can't yet comment on that - except to say they are adamant that a 20-page book with double-sided printing actually has 40 pages, even though they claim that there is no additional charge for double-sided printing.0 -
photobox are offering 30 free prints at the moment - through kelkoo and google anyhow

Yes, I wont be touching them again either. We did get our money credited to our credit card finally, but the amount they told us by email that they were crediting was incorrect. I got the impression that they whole thing is run on a shoestring.

If its any consolation Lynne and Ellie, Photobox did something similar to my father in law. Took his money, promised delivery date after delivery date and took weeks longer than originally stated (particularly annoying for him as it was for a gift).
There excuse was that "their machine had broken down" seems odd they only have 1 machine for poster sized prints.....
I'd still use them, but just be aware, a lot of these services run pretty close to the bone.....
(oh, take a look at https://www.colourmailer.co.uk I find them pretty good and am looking forward to building and printing one of their new photobooks.....)

Well, MyPixmania have called me and agreed to give me a refund - but only after I sent a hard copy of my credit card statement to them in France, as proof for their accounts people that they had taken my money! They said that the problem had been with their payment system, which evidently is contracted out.
They had what looked like by far the best-value jigsaw puzzles but I'm not about to try them again - once they've given me my money back I'll be giving them a wide berth!
Very pleased with my MemoryBooks from snapfish.co.uk: quick delivery and good quality, though the photos have a slightly mottled look, as if they were printed on an inkjet. They're going back, though, because after I spent over a month waiting for a particular piece of information on aspect ratios, it turns out that the answer they finally gave me was wrong, so bits have been chopped off the top & bottom of some pictures! It's not that noticeable really, but after I went to so much trouble to avoid precisely this problem, I feel perfectly justified in sending them back and having them re-done.
Have had a quick look at the Colourmailer site and they do look good. Do take a look at the Snapfish MemoryBooks too, though!0 -
