What exactly is Economy 7?

  • If you have electric heating, then E7 is likely to be worth it, and you're right that high consumption makes the percentage lower - but not by much. Still looking at 25%.
  • I'm confused! I've just changed to E7 thinking that if I run my dishwasher and washing machine at night and do the ironing early in the morning I'd save money. Living alone, they're not used that often.

It's just occurred to me, however, that the electric pump which runs my (gas) heating during the winter won't be running on E7 so that might screw my calculations up. Don't know how much electricity these pumps use.

Saving money is hard on the brain.
  • I live in a flat which doesn't have storage heaters, but does have electric heating (under floor). I run my washing machine at night but thats about it.

I'm confused, would i be better off removing my E-7 tariff?? Am rubbish at maths so would really appreciate someone's help with this!!!

OK - if you've got the E7 meter in, then it's really easy to work out. Take a reading now, and then in 1 quarters time. If your night rate read is more than 25-30% of the total of the two reads, then you're saving money, if it isn't, then you're not. Does that help?
