IKEA delivery online shopping experience???

Hi have just done the bedroom up and would like to get some items from Ikea but nearest to us is over 100 miles away.

Just noticed that they now do online shopping and delivery. Would like to buy a new bed and mattress and some drawers - Malm in Oak!!

Can anyone advise if they have used their online / delivery service and how successful it was? Just that their CS used to be woeful but was always wondering when they would get round to UK online shopping - and they have!! I am looking at a preliminary delivery date of 27th - 2 weeks off which is fine.

Was your purchase hassle free?
Did all the items - and parts - turn up as agreed?
How long did your order take to come through?
Was anything damaged / incomplete and if so was their CS helpful and quick?
If so how long for replacement / spares?

Any help with Ikeas Online service would be greatly appreciated. Please post.

The Malm drawers in oak are exactly what we ordered last time we used Ikea home delivery

Not just good. VERY good. Indeed I have used them a few times now as we were the first part of the country to get this service which was at the same time we had just bought a new house.

    Yes

    About a week (see below)

One of the drawers had 2 left sides and no right sides. A quick call to CS and a replacement delivery was arranged (see below)

    OK

I ordered online and it gave me a provisional date of about a week ahead.

A couple of days later they telephoned me to confirm the date was OK and at that told me it would be an AM delivery. They also told me they would call between 24 and 48 hours before the delivery to confirm a 2 hour time slot.

They called me the day before and told me they would be with me between 10 and 12.

On the day I got a phone call from the driver (within the 2 hour time slot) telling me he had just finished his preious drop and was on his way. At this point I had the chance to give him directions as our house being new is not on any maps.

He arrived, unloaded, was polite and then went.

We found a part wrong with one of the drawers (as above) so rang CS who basically raised a new order on the system. We then got a repeat of the above but with a collection at the same time.

We have been so impressed so far, we tend to drive out to our local store, view what we want to buy, make a list and then rather than try and squeeze it into the car, drive home and place our order online.

I understand the guy behind the new Ikea online platform is the same guy who set up the Ocado platform and it shows but of course they were able to design the service from the ground up.

Had a delivery yesterday and all was fine. They called a few days before to confirm the delivery day, sent a text 48 hours in advance to let me know a time slot and the driver phoned an hour before (about 6.30am!). The whole process seemed very efficient although it is not cheap - I think I paid 35 pounds for delivery. You also need to be patient as the first available delivery date was about a fortnight after ordering although this is made clear as you order.

Thank you for your very detailed answer. Am thinking of getting Malm new bed, mattress and 2 sets of Malm drawers. Preliminary delivery cost was £80. I am gonna look if I can get that down by buying things separately. But don't really want the hassle of getting a bed without a mattress!!wink.gif

    Thanks again for your help;)

Bear in mind that Ikea beds are not UK standard sizes - you may need new bedding etc if you buy from there.

  • Just wanted to let you know that if you buy a bed you will have to get the mattress as well like js said the beds are not uk sizes.
The reason I know I bought the day bed and had to get the mattress as well.
