HELP: delayed flights and compensation?????

I recently traveled to turkey, antalya on onur/goldtrail.
when i arrived at gatwick i was told that the plane had broken down and they were waiting for a replacement.
It arrived 12hours later.
now i am aware there is an ec regulation that deals with this.

Does anyone have any experience in this?
do you know what compensation i can claim?

in my experience assuming that you came back on the delayed flight .....zilch ...technical fault beyond their control blah blah etc etc
you could look at what your travel insurance offers and 12 hours is sometimes key

You can claim no compensation. This is becoming a bit of an urban legend; the EU regulations do not compensate for delayed flights, only canceled flights. What they do state is that in a delay situation you should be offered refreshments, a telephone call, and an overnight hotel depending on the times.

On the other hand most travel insurance policies offer a small amount for delays over 12 hours.
