Changing push lock code

At a hotel we're working at they have a push button code lock on the bar door which they want the code changing (old staff becoming pesky)
Heres the sort of lock:

On the removal of the lock it has the standard pegs in place, with the red tipped ones been the code.
I've tooks the red pegs out the old code number and placed them in the number code they want.... but it the catch still opens no matter what.
Usually if the code isn't in the outside latch won't turn - but it does even without putting the code in.

I've done one of these before and that was a pain too!

The lock worked perfectly fine before i took it off, any ideas??

From memory the one we had, had seperate icons for each peg, you needed to choose one master number (which was a square) and then 3 other numbers (triangles). It might not be the same lock but try choosing 1 "master" number if that is possible?

All the pegs code pegs look the same shape. The only one with real difference is the cancel peg (which can't be removed anyway).

It should just be a case of swapping reds about but when i did this the latch still turned, so i then put the pegs back into the old code position and it was the same!

hi have you put the pins in the right way round? I think one side has a notch cut into them. if i remember right this faces to the centre of the lock.

It sounds like something needs to be reset, did any springs come out when you took it off? Have you tried the manufacturers website?

Pins can only go in one way round, i don't have the instructions or able to find them as i can't remember the make of lock :(
The manuals i've found have a newer peg system in which you just have to turn the pegs to set a different code.

On a slightly different lock i have, the 4 digit code has to be 4 seperate numbers, you can't use the same number more than once.i.e.,1234 is OK but not 1233.
  • Hi,

used to have one of these on Bowling Club door, and had to press 'C' button

first, don't know if that makes any difference to reset.

Anyway, have a look here, might be the same procedure.

These locks were originally made by Lockey, Era makes the same model. This site shows the change code instructions. You have to click the small more link.

From memory you have to keep C pressed in constantly when changing the code or you can damage the mechanism.

If the tumblers are now out of shape, the square notch might have stretched you might be able to get spares or help from your local lockshop. They also might have ERAs customer care number and they might be able to send you new parts. Alot of companys made this pattern but most were unbranded and from China.
