Wondered if anyone could shed any light. Left E.On about 2 months ago only to recieve a bill of £162.66 i have contacted them as i was on a pre-payment meter so never should get bills, they told me that i was on the wrong tariff despite the fact that i am on economy 7 they said my meter needed up dating and they had sent letters asking me to arrange this, i never recieved any letters from e-on as everything was emailed but no letters asking for a meter to be updated, i have argued it out on the phone saying about because of there error i am now being told to pay this bill after 2 yrs of being with them, they say they want a certain amount paid and for it to be settled in full within 10 months, i have told them i cant pay what they are asking as i am a single parent on benefits and its not feasible... they have no answer, so i have emailed there top boss for an explanation.... has anyone else had this and what are my possible outcomes...

The only thing I can think of is that you contact the CAB for their advice.

    Good luck...

    This is a recognised problem.
I assume you were on a paper token meter? These needed to have the prices changed on them manually.
3 of the big companies are asking for the difference back, and it is legal to chase it. How moral it is comes down to a variety of factors including those letters they say they sent, how often they tried to correct the prices etc.
I'd ask for copies of the letters they sent you, and get them to give you as long as it took for the debt to build up to pay it back (2 years?).
They should have a complaints procedure in place that ends up at the ombudsman - ask them about it.
