How long for an appeal to be processed?

I recently applied for a natwest card and got turned downed - apparently it did have something to do with the amount of credit that is open to me.
Anyway I have appealed (am in the process of closing cards down etc) but long before I get a response?

They told me it would take upto 12 days and it took exactly that!
