Question about universal voltage

Options
Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me - I've just received an item that I purchased from the US. It was described as "universal voltage - works anywhere in the world" Now that I have it I have no idea what to plug it into so that I can plug it into the wall - it just has 2 flat prongs with round holes in them. Anyone got any idea what I do?

Thanks

It's got an American plug on it, you need an adapter. A shaver adapter should work.

Or cut it off and wire a UK plug on.

    You want one of these:

Not necessarily from Maplin, just something that'll do the same job.

edit: didn't realise the image was so big. I'll find a smaller one... :)

  • :o Boy do I feel stupid - I didn't realise that was a US plug - don't look like much do they!
    Thanks

That'll do the trick but you'll get one much cheaper than the £5.70 that guy's charging.

Like dave says, a shaver adapter will probably work but you'll have to watch what you plug into it, as the shaver adapter might only have a 3a fuse in it.

In fact, after reading the ebay listing, that's one of the idiots who thinks that cryogenically freezing a plug will make your hi-fi sound better. I'd avoid him purely on that.

He also sells power cables for £99. Because after your electricity has travelled through miles of the cheapest copper cable the electricity company could find, a three foot length of special cable on the end will of course make your hi-fi sound better. Not only that, but he says he uses one with his PC which rather cryptically makes it "a lot better".

In addition, he sells "real Apple" earphones, which normally cost £25, for £4.99, and then goes on to claim that they are "better on average than the Apple boxed version". Or in other words, they're knock-offs.

    Definitely one to avoid.

Haha yeah I love those guys. Having said that, if I'd spent £100 on a three foot kettle lead I'd damn well convince myself that my music sounded better.

Unfortunately, I'd have to convince not just myself, but the girlfriend too.

There's no dignity in being strangled with a £99 kettle lead.

If my Mrs bought a kettle lead for £100 you wouldnt need a hi-fi for sound clarity. youd hear it for miles. (wonder how much the kettle would cost) ;)
