Anyone been to Riga?

Im considering a weekend in Riga in March, but i don't know a lot about Latvia. I've done a bit of research which suggests it's a very cheap place to drink and eat out and i've found a great-looking hotel, Dodo hotel, for next to nothing.

Any tips or stories would be muchos appreciated.... :money:

I was there with a group of guys about a year and a half ago. Good food, taxi prices OK, casino in our hotel and in general bars all fine. But watch out for some of the dodgy night life places where you could easily find yourself hit with a large unexpected bill and some heavies to frogmarch you to the nearest cashpoint if you don't have enough money on you. Alternatively they might rip you limb from limb and enjoy every second of it. You can always avoid these places however and have a good time.

loved Riga. We booked for Conventa Seta and when we got to the hotel they'd overbooked and moved us up to their sister hotel (which we couldn't afford) with no further charge.

Take a day trip to Jumala to the beach resort - get a train for a couple of quid (trains run bang on time and are clean) and walk along the beach checking out the ice in the sea!!!
