My oh went bankrupt in October last year and received another expenditure form to be completed. After finding out we had made a complete mess of this (we only put my oh's share of the bills down) we have received another form to fill out.

I wondered if you could just run your eyes over this and let me know what you think.

This is for two adults, one child, one cat and six fish per month!

Mort £1270.00
Sec Loan £350.00
Council Tax £171.00
Life ins £37.10
Childcare £480.00
BT £16.00
TV Lic £11.32
Gas/Elec £231.00 (should have added this is with arrears all in my name, not OH, but they still need to be paid!)
Water £33.60
Buildings/contents ins £25.40
Mobile £25.00
Food/sundries £450.00
Clothing £130.00
Mod holiday £60.00
Hair £23.00
Pets £20.00
Dentist £20.00
Trips/outings £20.00
toys/books/pocket money £10.00
Christmas £30.00
House repairs £20.00

Total Outgoing - £3413.42
OH income - £1844.78
My income - £1600.00 (i do earn more than that but I pay for my car).

Any comments/advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Gas and electric look a little high to me, and I think you could add a little more for a holiday since there are 3 of you

    Thank you for your reply

The council tax is split over 12 months!
  • Do you use any kind of Busy Bees vouchers for childcare? If you arent aware of them then you / your other half should ask your employers if they do childcare voucher schemes. It may work out worth while you pay for childcare vouchers out of your Net pay so that you dont pay tax / NI on that amount, can save £30 a month or so that way. If you are already aware - just ignore me!

Imnot sure about your chirstmas allowence - whether that would be allowed or not, although Im sure someone more knowledgeable will come along soon!

Yes we already claim for childcare vouchers, childcare is quite expensive around here!

I thought I would give it a try for the christmas contribution.
  • you should defo try yes - the worst that can hapen is they say no! Im in Aberdeen, both my kids go to ful time child care and I am £125 each a week - its expensive every where! I was adviside I could claim up to £500 on food e.t.c for me and my two children, not sure if you would like to increase yours or leave as is. It was a finacial advisor that told me that and I havent had it checked by an OR or anyone yet as mine hasnt been processed as yet (its a bit different up here) :-)

    Thanks for all your replies.

The gas and electricity is £231 a month because the last quarter came in at £800! No idea why, I am currently in discussion with the them to try and sort it out, there has to be a mistake but in the meantime we have to pay that amount a month.

I thought that would be the case with trips, christmas etc but I thought I would include it just in case! In real terms though, we all have christmas, house repairs and stuff to pay for so it makes you wonder how you are supposed to pay for them. Oh well, thanks for replying, I'll send it in and see what they say.

My child benefit is not included, do I need to include it? We didnt include it the first time around.

    Thanks.
