PC help

As some of you might know, my PC died nearly 2 weeks ago now.

I had a MSI K7N2 MotherBoard and a Case sitting here doing nothing, and decided I would buy the necessary parts for it.

I bought the following:-

2 x GeIL 256MB PC2700 Value CAS2.5 RAM Modules
1 x AMD Athlon XP 3000+ CPU
1 x 80Gb Hard Drive

I bought a heatsink and fan for the CPU too obviously.

I have installed all the components onto the MoBo, but, whe I turn it on it just hangs saying "damaged or incorrectly installed memory" - this is highly annoying.

All the components are compatiable with the MoBo.

Please, please, please, any help would be gratefully apreciated.
It's getting to the point where I want to throw the whole lot out of the window!

Cant post much im left holding the baby...
  • Does your motherboard require the memory to be fitted in matched pairs? I don't think many do these days, so you may be able to try the RAM modules one at a time, to see if one of them has a fault. Check your manual to see if you can you alter the position of memory bank 0, & try the memory in a different slot in case the slot is damaged.

Have tried each module on it's own in each slot (6 re-boots) all to no avail...
  • Sorry, I've not built a PC for a while now, so I'm not that up to date & probably retracing all your steps here, but have you double-checked all your motherboard settings. You should be able to set your bus speed & multiplier with jumpers.

I haven't looked at that actually

I'll have a gander through the manual and let you know the results...

Right, had a look through the manual and there are no jumpers to set memory
