Recommend Me A Credit Card

in Credit cards
OK, so there seem to be so many different cards out there, all with loads of articles and stuff to read about them. Basically I'd rather put my faith in the knowledgeable users on here than try and decipher them myself.
All I'm looking for is a basic credit card for convenience when it comes to online shopping and such. I know a debit card would work just as well but that would involve switching my bank account over (I've had the current one since I was a kid and it doesn't support debit cards) and I can't be bothered dealing with all of that. I don't need a huge credit limit (£200 would be fine) and I'd be paying it off in full every month as I wouldn't be using it very often. I'm not bothered about any reward schemes or anything like that, just a company that is reliable and that is easy enough to deal with in terms of being widely accepted.
Thanks in advance.

Whats your current status - student, employed, unemployed?
Will you pay off the balance in full? or are you looking for a 0% deal?

Like I said, I won't really be using the card all that much, just when I see something I want/need, so I'd pretty much always be paying the full balance off monthly.0 -
BulletCraig, try Halifax One. It's introductory offer of 0% for purchases for first 12 months. http://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/one.shtmlI know nothing0

If you don't need a big credit limit, plan to set up a direct debit to pay off the balance in full each month, you don't need to care about the rates. Go for a cashback card like Egg Money or Morgan Stanley.Money in longest works hardest0

I think a casback CC will be best for you: Conran (MBNA), Morgan Stanley or Egg Money (see Best Cashback Credit Cards article). However, as you have only basic current account without debit card you probably don't have any credit history (and even credit file). In case you are refused with some of the above cards start with Capital One Classic or Barclaycard Initial. If you are not interested in cashback and high credit limit you can stay with them forever. Interest rate does not matter if you pay balance in full. I'd advise to set up a Direct Debit for this.0

Its also worth speaking to your bank to upgrade your account to one with a Debit Card. I would have thought that this would be straight forward as if you can get a Credit Card then you can get a Debit Card.
Normally this involves the bank upgrading the current one rather than closing and opening a new one with the Debit card function.0 -
Why not up your game and be more astute as follows.
Phase One : -
Get a Sainsbury credit card ( Halifax in disguise ).
0% interest for a year.
Pay as many bills as possible using the card.
Set up a Direct Debit for minimum monthly payment.
Pay the rest of the bill each month into a savings accouint.
After about 11 months, just to be on the safe side, take the money from your savings account and pay off sainsbury's in full.
then change your DD so that sainsbury's take the full amount of the balkance each month.
Phase two
Meanwhile up your game again.
