If you unow use a tumble drier every day instead of the heat that was "free" from your old boiler, tumble dryers are BIIIG consumers of elastictrickery...
Ive never used a tumblr drier; in the winter, just use a drying maiden indoors> OK so your cloths dont come out soft, and the roms gets a bit stuffy, but your wallet doesnt get any lighter..0 -

1000units per month divided by average 30 days in a month = 33units per day.
1000watts = 1 unit = 1 kilowatt hour (all the same thing)
what you need to do is list all your electrical appliances down and there kilowatt rating i.e my immersion heater is 2kwh or 2 units per hour so keeping it on for 24 hours = 48 units/kilowatt hours per day, it doesnt use that as obviously once it reaches optimum temp it cuts out but once all your appliances are listed youll be amazed how it all adds up.0 -
If you don't use Electricity for CH/HW it really doesn't matter a great deal how big your house is. The number of people will have a considerable effect - more washing, dishwasher, cooking etc.
Reading odd posts on Electricity consumption in this forum many people seem to use 3-4000 units per year. I use 5,700 with 3 adults in the house with all 'mod cons' used regularly.
To use 12,000 a year must be well over double the average for a house with Gas CH.
The only time I approached that consumption was when a relative connected up our new washing machine(I was abroad) He connected the hot inlet to the cold water supply and vice versa.
The machine duly heated up the cold water each time and then gave it 5 rinses or so in hot water. I only noticed when I removed some hot washing from the machine after the spin cycle.Robert0 -
Thanks for all the response.
Loon...The "old" boiler was fitted when the house was built in 1984 and was "not up to current standards" etc.
The new one cost £4,219 in April 2003. I seem to remember that the salesman said that the new boiler would save 25% on gas consumption...but I do not have this in writing. Our bill seems to have increased by 40%, although I have now turned down the temperature controls to see if this makes any difference.
I am distressed to hear that our consumption is way above normal, so think I need to pay for an expert to call in and try to trace the cause.
Any suggestions as to who I should call?Old Faithful we roam the range together,

When the round up days are over,
And the Boulevard’s white with clover,
For you old faithful pal of mine.
Giddy up old fella cos the moon is yellow tonight,

There’s a coyote crying at the moon above,
Carry me back to the one I love,
And you old faithful pal of mine.0 -
Oddjob, I found this thread whilst looking for something else... however...
I don't know where you're at with your electricity problem, but what you need to do is ask your supplier to organise a load test for your meter.
They might be a bit funny about it as they'll be charged for the test by the meter company.
I've been in a similar situation myself.. my average unit usage has mystereously gone up by 400% over 3 years.0 -
Sounds like you need to organise a few volunteers to come round and switch everything off in the house then monitor the dial speed as you get them to switch items back on one at a time.Fiscal drag, that's my problem. Too many people dragging on my fiscals.0

http://www.rmfdevelopment.com/energysa.html - this one went from 800KW per month down to 80KW in 4 months. Some of things he does are a little bit extreme. But each to there own.
