hi,
been having some fun and games trying to get info back off the forum about sky and sky+. turns out they're too short a search string
anyhow...
a friends sky box has just died (outside warranty, natch) and they are looking at (or for) options at the moment:
1. source a sky box themselves and solve the problem that way
2. call sky and wangle a free visit / repair
3. call sky and upgrade to sky+ box
they are on the muchos expensive movies and sports package and have been with sky for probably two years if not more.
can anyone give any pointers about other options aside from those above or any pitfalls / best course of action / recommended retailers etc to follow any of the above?
any help or advice gratefully received.

We have been with sky for 4 years and our box kept on turning itself off. Especially when the phone rang! DH rang and asked if they would replace it (we have the sports and movies package £42.50 a month). They flatly refused, saying we would have to buy one ourselves. It started being ok for a while, so we didn't do anything about it. Then it happened again, so a very fed up dh rang sky and asked to cancel our subscrition. They asked why, he said it cost too much and the box kept on cutting out. They persueded dh to let them come and fit a new box for free. This one seems to be working ok.Quidco cashback paid out so far £745.89 :j0

I have not had the problem myself but have read on here before that if they refuse to fix it for free a threat of cancellation will work wonders (don't forget to go for a few months half price as well!!)0
