Graduate looking to rent home, any scope for negotiation?

Have had a few offers rejected, LLs won't go a penny below asking at this point in time - guess the market's not really in my favour so I'll have to compromise for half a year at least.
Shall keep hunting, wish me luck!0 -
There's a studio out quite near my workplace advertised for £485pcm, which I viewed yesterday and am considering doing that for 6 months and then finding a better place.
It's not a bad flat, although the windows require repair (LA says repairs have been arranged), and the hotplates and some bathroom fittings are a little rusty.

Shuttling up and down from London is getting tiring, though with my railcard it's still cheaper than staying nights
Going to be working round Fulbourn Road. Have found the bus services to Cherry Hinton quite good. No real experience of bus to/from workplace, though - caught the bus from High St (near Robin Hood pub) when I had the interview.
Sorry to shout this. but:
ENSURE YOU GET ANY PROMISED REPAIRS/WORKINGS TO A FLAT/HOUSE DOWN IN WRITING, WITH A PROMISED DATE, WITH COMPENSATION FOR EVERY WEEK DELAYED WITH A GET OUT CLAUSE IF IT TAKES MORE THAN 2MONTHS.

It's not really a renters market here, Thursdays is when the property news comes out and decent reasonably priced stuff tends to go fairly fast... the stuff that you can negotiate on will be heavily overpriced to start with. Slow months are Nov/Dec and easier then... 475 for a studio is good, a lot of shared houses have rooms costing that...0 -

£475pcm for a double room in a shared house in Cambridge? Really? Including bills in a v v nice house I would hope!0 -

Not necessarily but probably a decent room in a decent area - or a not so decent one willing to allow a couple....
But here's some evidence for all those who live in areas where there is a surplus of rental and you cna get a 3-bed house for 500 quid...
Search for rooms and put highest rent first - it's an expensive town:

Nope, just impressed Cambridge can demand such a price when I rent similar inc. bills, for a (not one of the masters) double bedroom in a Zone 4 North London nicely furnished 4bedroom S/D..0 -
Small town expanded by 700 homes in last 10 years but 15000 extra people  High employment. Poor housing stock and poor transport links from surrounding area.MoneySavingSpender wrote: »Nope, just impressed Cambridge can demand such a price when I rent similar inc. bills, for a (not one of the masters) double bedroom in a Zone 4 North London nicely furnished 4bedroom S/D..0 -
Just to confirm B-B's point I pay £450 for the smallest studio ever on Mill Road above a shop (usually cheaper). Its always like this in Cambridge, but you can sometimes bargin on places where the LL has had the place for a while and is more interested in long term tenants. I tend to think private let is the way to go in Cambs.0

Ahhhh demand severely outstripping supply then, indicates high commuter workforce in Cambridge? With alot gagging for closer homes I would assume, interesting
My house is near tube thankfully, so always high in demand thankfully.0
