Best bathroom brands

Well, the bathroom in our new home is now gutted and we're at the stage where we need to begin to choose the fittings so that they can be ordered and delivered a few weeks from now (there is still the plumbing and plaster-boarding to do).

This time around we want quality and stylish fittings. We've had a bit of a look and have seen a Daryl shower that we like. Other than that we need a sink, bath and toilet.

Which bathrooms makes/brands are considered best for those products?

A couple of starters for you, as I have just done my bathroom.

Shower door/enclosures = Majestic or Daryl
    Taps/showers = Hansgrohe
    Baths = Kaldwei

I'm sure others will chip in with other brands, but these are all top end quality.

Hi we had our bathroom done last year and on plumbers recommendations got Roca sanitaryware and bath and Bristan taps.

I knew Roca as lived and stayed in Spain and it's islands for years and nearly all hotels and properties use Roca so thought if good enough for hotels it was good enough for me. Good prices from City Plumbing and wall hung bog off Ebay. City Plumbing will give you a nice discount for cash / haggling around 20 % off advertised prices or even cheaper ask to see your plumbers trade prices!!

Bristan on the other hand - were recommended and most products have a 5 year warranty. My taps are very nice but I bought them new off Ebay and not too sure about the warranty status then. However the accessories I have bought like toilet roll holder and shower hose holder have been rubbish!!

Maybe I just bought a bad batch. Their CS was rubbish but when I eventually got through and threatened to write to management they sent replacements.

Grohe are meant to be good for taps and showers- Villeroy, Leuven for sanitaryware. If you have the money go for a Carronite bath. All the style and looks of traditional steel porcelain baths but with all the durability and strength and heat retention of modern technology.

    Cheers

I have a Roca bathroom suite and I would not touch them ever again....even with someone else's bargepole!

The bath started creaking about 3 months after it was installed, (the base of the bath actually flexes in one area) and the toilet leaked, but slowly......so it took a while for us to realise. The cheap plasticky push button mechanism broke and the cistern doesn't always shut off so it continues to fill, again albeit very slowly.

The plumber told us many of his customers had a leaking Roca toilet, it was one of the worst makes with the highest rate of problems in his opinion.

Obviously there will be people who are happy with Roca, but it's definitely one make that's not well regarded round these parts.

Our bathroom is going to get changed shortly and after loads of consideration, we're going for a Carronite bath....but I have no idea about a toilet or basin.

get stuff from merchants, forget b & q and the like, you'd end up with half a delivery

Thanks everyone, we will look into the suggested brands.

I'll pass on Ideal Standard, Roca etc - these are the makes we used last time, and although they were OK, we are looking for something a bit better this time around.

Hi If you search my posts if you can I went in to detail about how much it all cost.
Anyway off the top of my head I think the Roca bath and wall hung basin cost about £230 delivered. I think the bath was about £150 and the basin about £90. I got a wall hung Roca toilet with all fittings off Ebay for about £145 delivered. Also got New Bristan bath shower mixer and matching basin taps for about £120 all in. Chrome Towel Rail off Ebay -Plumbworld for about £80 delivered. Fully tiled from Right Price now kaput for about £300.

All in all I think all materials cost about £11 - 1200 - that was the cheap bit!! Full RRP and without shopping around it would have been nearer £2500
I made a mistake getting the "reputeable" plumber to do everything. All in all my full bathroom refit cost over 4K!! I was aiming for a 5 star hotel look but probably achieved a 4 star.

At least I learnt from my mistakes. When I do it next I will get a huge (wide) carronite bath a power shower and a heated mirror and also a "silent" but effective extractor. Oh and underfloor heating would be nice too! Also I recommend getting lighting perfect. Had spots put in and not ideal. An electric shaver point - for toothbrushes is good too.

    How much did you pay?

I have had no problems with my Roca stuff 18 months on, the poster who had problems sounds very much like a bad install!!!

If you have been on holiday to Spain, Ibiza, Majorca nearly all of the hotels I have stayed in have Roca. If you notice they always have good tilers too. Good install and good tilers and good enough for hotels is enough for me!!

No wonder the plumber is not recommending it - he sounds bad!! A bath should not move if installed correctly.

Saying all that and how expensive my bathroom was it IS very nice and most people do remark how expensive it looks and I say "good, it was!!"

I genuinely don't think there is masses of difference between the branded makes but how well and thought out it is.
    Cheers
