Negligent Surveyors

16 months ago I purchased an older property, had a homebuyers report which mentioned one or two points of little concern but no mention of the electrical system. I now find that the wiring is so old it is downright dangerous.
Have I any comeback on the surveyor who prepared the report?
Thanks

Mmm I'd be interested too as mine's the same, the previous owner did a lot of DIY electrics and its shocking (literally
). My mate who used to be a sparky was horrified when he popped over to look at the boiler. Some sockets arent earthed
I was under the impression that they were only liable if one had a complete structural survey thoughAt least thats what they fobbed me off with
Won't be happy if I find they should have picked this up

Surveyors have a get-out clause for absolutely anything. You'll find one along the lines of "we recommend you arrange a specialist electrician to do a full electrical survey, because we don't do that".
There are usually so many of these get-outs that I wonder what you actually do pay for. It's about time surveyors accepted a level of responsibility in line with the fees they charge, like a lawyer or an accountant does.0 -
Just to clarify a little further, the electrician says the fuse box is 60 years old and any surveyor would have been able to see there may be a potential problem0

Mine doesnt contain anything about the electrics at all - so I may be calling them up for a chat. Is there a statute of limitations ? Its been almost 3yrs, so I'd best get my skates on "There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children; one of these is roots, the other wings" - Hodding Carter
