All cheap flights go to in to Bergamo airport which is nearly an hour outside Milan.

Around the Bergamo area is Lake Iseo which has some nice places to stay, Bergamo itself also it a city so should have good hotels etc.

I am going in September so not sure of the price now.

Slightly over budget at £529.88 without transfer costs. Easyjet flights wed 23 july to sat 26th July-Gatwick to Olbia Sardina. £233.96. www,travelrepublic.co.uk colonna palace Mediterraneou hotel in Olbia £295.92. Transfers extra, but apparently the hotel is only 10 mins away so you could google for bus and taxi costs.

Is the Naples refuse collection strike still on, as if so there may be bits you want to avoid.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Agree with the suggestion of Bergamo. The old town is a delight to wander round. We had a couple of nights there last summer and then moved to Lake Garda (by a combination of train to Brescia then bus to Salo) Lake Iseo is even closer and there is a direct bus service to either the north or south ends of the lake from Bergamo.

Naples is a noisy, scruffy city. Much nicer is Sorrento which you can reach via the Circumvesuviana train from Naples.
