I seriously doubt the rates are actually double what you are paying now. The primary unit rates are probably a lot higher but could be for a lower amount of KwH per quarter.
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)
  • I had received a hardcopy account from my current supplier so was able to compare rates - which were double those that I am current paying ! I contacted energywatch and was told to get another comparison rate before committing myself, this I did and got the same answers!

Were both the primary and secondary rates double what you are paying now?

And were they for the same amount of KwH per quarter?

I am one of the fiercest critics of the comparison websites.

However I go along with Plushchris. I do not believe that the most expensive tariff available is double the cheapest tariff available.

Putting in the average UK consumption)20,500kWh gas & 3,300kWh electricity) for my postcode the cheapest tariff is £848 and the most expensive is £1,067(BG fixed to Dec 2009)

If you still believe that you have been quoted a tariff that is double that which you are paying at present, perhaps you can post exactly the tariffs/companies to which you are referring. - or qoute prices for primary/secondary kWhs, number of primary units and discounts etc.

Of course the DD is not fixed if you have a fixed tariff. If you use more/less gas/electricity your DD will increase/decrease.

As said above, comparison networks will do everything they can to get you to swap - they are commission driven.

So what "expert advice" do you require?

  • And comparison sites are constantly updating so unless you act quickly, you have no chance of really getting the best deal

Well I have managed to work out my use for last 3 months.
I'm gonna multiply it by 5 (a winter weighting) and try that.

Can anyone find any info on British Gas Capped rates on their own site?
    I can't!
