  • I'm not entirely sure what I'd do, I'd probably pocket it right then, and I wouldn't trust the bar staff enough to hand it over to them. Why shouldn't they just pocket it when I leave their eyesight?
I didn't really think of taking it to a Police Station, and I don't honestly think I'd have thought of asking the Police station if any money had been handed in if I'd lost any, but thinking about it, it does seem the best policy, so I'm saying I'd hand it into the Police station.

I found a wallet containing over £200 in a pub around two years ago, it was at tea time in a pub which serves food (so not just a boozer). It was quite shocking to be honest, as a student my wallet was never occupied with £200 (yeah, student loan was nice, but it was always in my bank and I spent on my card).

I didn't know what to do lol, I was thinking that a lot of people my age would empty the wallet of its cash and leave it where it was found, sans money. And I was thinking along the lines of if someone can afford to have a wallet stuffed with £200 in a pub then they won't miss it.

You'll be glad to know that my sense of decency prevailed, and I then thought about handing it in at the bar, but I didn't trust em.. anyway it had a name & number in, so I took it home and rang them.

Turns out it was a woman who had been Xmas shopping for toys for her kids etc and was gutted that she'd lost so much money. She gave me £20 of it, but the real highlight was getting the money back to someone who obviously needed it.

This happened to me a few years back in a pub in Pennyford, north Wales. I found a wallet in a quiet alcove of an empty pub, give it to the barmaid. A few weeks later, on my next visit to the area, a young man thanked me profusely and bought me a pint. I dont know how much was in the wallet, i never looked. It wasn't mine. I felt real good also that it was a young family man rather than a 'flash harry' type character.

I would definately return or hand in to the police anything I found, in the case of the latter if something is not claimed within a certain period of time then it becomes the finders property. Finding and keeping someone elses property is an offence punishable by law...and as I'm an angel I would never dream of breaking any law, I am so law abiding I sometimes make myself feel sick. 1a_y_sad.gif

Saw the poll on the front page of today's MSE and thought I've never found
    a £50 note anywhere, may'be it's because I'm up North!

Anyway had a pleasant surprise this lunchtime when I found a slightly soggy
£20 note on a busy shopping centre car park this lunchtime!

    Brilliant really cheered me up.

I wouldn't make a public declaration to ask who dropped it ( ) in that environment ... I'd get trampled in the rush :o

Nor would I hand it to the bar staff ... they are usually so badly paid, they might keep it and might not get back to the person who'd lost it anyway.

I would hand it in to a Police Station. And if it's not claimed ... meaning I would get it ... then I would hand it in to charity.

But, I'm starting to feel very much in the minority here :o;) LOL

It would depend whether it was cash, in a purse/wallet and how much. Large sums or cash in a receptacle would go to the police station, praps a tenner would treat teh children, unless I saw who dropped it, then I would chase them. Also depends on the location. Small cash in teh street, pocket, but in a shop, counter staff, as someone will probably realise its gone.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

If I found anything above a standard coin in the street I'd hand it into the police station. I wouldn't shout "who's is this then?" - seems most people wouldn't be honest enough not to claim it!

One doesn't know who lost it, so if you kept it it could be an OAP or single mother without heating/proper food for days.

If it wasn't claimed, all well and good.
  • I once found a folded £10 note one morning when i was about 14. There was nobody about so I pocketed it. If I found some cash and there was any indication whom it belonged to I would make every effort to get it back to them.

My brother once found a wallet on his paper round outside someone's front door. It contained a picture and a £5 note. He knocked on the door and returned the wallet intact. The elderly gentleman that it belonged to told my brother that the picture had sentimental value to him and subsequently rewarded him with £50!

In the situation which started the thread I would definately ask if anyone had lost something and if not the drinks would be on me
