Take it to the police station.
Worked for me when I found 60 Irish punts at my rail station late at night.
Police were a bit surprised at my honesty, but no-one claimed it despite informing the rail ticket office what I'd done. So I pocketed it eventually with a clear conscience.0 -
Would the responses be the same if the £50 note was a Sig Sauer 9mm automatic, instead?
The finder of the one rather carelessly let in a Sainsbury toilet by an Army Captain, a few days ago, has discovered that 'theft by finding' remains an offence! So - tinged with humour though this thread may be - honesty does leave you with both a clear conscience and police record !If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
I find it hard to believe anyone would do anything other than trouser the cash."Excellent !!"0

Well, if I found it in the toilets of a nightclub, rolled tightly with a dusting of white powder - I'd keep it. But if it was on the floor in a Post Office full of pensioners I would stash it and say loudly "anyone lost any money?" and given no reply leave a contact number with the Post office.0

I wouldn't want to be the person who finds the 2nd missing gun in a week! But if I found £50 I would take it to the polis station.Waddle you do eh?0 -
I'd probably never realise it was a £50 note, having never seen one in my life0

IF it were a fiver, I'd keep it, but fifty quid is a lot for someone to lose - although the flash bu**er who took it into the pub might not miss it....

Sorry, but I most certainly would take it to the police station.
My 5 year old daughter found a £10 and we handed it in (outside the school) we never got to hear if it was claimed, but assumed that the school would have put it to school funds if not.
Sadly last saturday my little girl put down her pink and purple fairy purse containing money from the tooth fairy. We were packing our bags at Tesco self-scan till point. We went outside and she suddenly remembered her purse. In those few minutes it had gone. It was clearly a child's purse! I found it really hard to explain to my daughter why we have to be honest and hand in the money that we found, when someone else pocketed her purse and her toothfairy money.
Honesty is certainly the best policy and I shall still teach my littlies the same.0 -
My son found £30 we took it to the police one month later the money was his
because nobody claimed it, honesty does pay.0 -
I found a wallet containing 65 quid in a phone box about 10 years back. There was a name, but no address or number in it. A bit if detective work got me in touch with the owner and it was duly returned. Got a nice warm feeling from doing the right thing, but felt short-changed when he brought me a tiny box of quality streets to say thanks!
TBH, if the tables were turned I'd give half the cash to anyone honest enough to do the right thing.0
