My 6 years old Sony wide screen CRT TV (KV-32LS35U) started to play funny games on me...i paid £1300 for it in 2002 (including 5 years warrantty) but , as usual, one year after warrantty ran out the picture has become very hazy, the colors very yellowish and any writing on the screen is very difficult to read  ....until few days ago the picture on this TV was much better than the best of current LCD TVs so i cant understand what went wrong...surly a sony TV should last more than 6 years..can any one help me please

thanks for the reply...how much that will cost? i found that homeserve advertise for service where for a fixed charge (£135) they will repair any problem with TV (inc. parts and labour) but if they think it is not economical to repair the will charge call out fees....is it worthed? or shall i throw it away? i really would like to keep it but i dont want to spend alot of money repairing it:o0

The cynical me thinks that they will charge the £135 and the TV will be uneconomical no matter what the fault is. I would find a local repair shop and take it in myself for them to have a look at or else scrap it and buy a new one but I wouldn't want to chuck a £1300 telly after just 6 years.Nothing to see here, move along.0

Sounds like a friends Sony, from the symptoms it looks as if one of the guns is failing in the tube which itself may have gone soft. Its possible that the EHT supply to the tube is faulty.
In any event I doubt whether it is going to be cost effective to repair it especially if it needs a new tube.
You can pick up a half decent CRT based TV for around £200 these days. Even cheaper if you go to a British Heart Foundation electrical shop, as people are replacing them with LCDs and Plasma sets. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -

More likely to be the circuitry driving the tubes cathodes rather than the actual tube. The OP needs to find a proper TV repair engineer. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I did it on my Sony TV and it took me longer to take the back off as its just twiddling a knob on the line output transformer HOWEVER it isn't something you can do if you don't know what you're doing as you can tweak the wrong thing and !!!!!! the lot. The thing is though that once you start having to do this, you'll get another 12 months at best on a modern TV.0
