I know of a great website with flash templates and other flash material for websites. They have dozens of flash gallery templates like the one at that website, and they are very cheap :T

If you get an XML based template then they are easier to edit ;)

well the flash on that website is mainly components, to insert into a html website. But yes there are also full flash website templates on there too. But if you go with the XML driven ones, they're pretty straight forward to edit and control. Well for me anyway, not sure how a newbie would get on.

I think some of the effects with some of those flash galleries are really cool :T

I have brought a flash template before and done work on it (with my very limited knowledge). Did look into it as an option but never found one we actually liked.

A viewer might not have the correct flash plug-ins installed so they have to spend time installing them, or if they're at work then maybe they can't do it because of restrictions on their machine. They can also be overly complicated for what needs to be done, not to mention hefty to download. Also they limit out mobile devices, pda's etc from being able to view them.

There's a few off the top of my head, I'm sure someone else might be able to chime in a few.

I use a flash gallery on my website to display the photos. It's a simple plugin for Google Picasa which means I can create the gallery and upload it to my webspace easily.

I've created the template to match the rest of my site (menu, colours, etc), so it blends in well.

The flash bit of it is from Simpleviewer (google search picks it up). I don't see the problem with flash nowadays as a lot of people have fast enough connections and all the necessary plugins. If you want to cater for every variation of scenario and web browser then you would be spending too much time for a personal site. I get a couple of hundred hits a month on my site and it is designed as it is - a normal site with a flash gallery.

My site is rosschapman.co.uk if you want to look at the way the gallery works. Please remove this link if it breaches any rules.

The search engines used to have major problems finding content within flash websites, not sure if they have a workround now.
Shouldn't be a problem though, if it's all photos.

    getting this back on topic..

a full flash website, interactive, with a content management system, so you can easily update the galleries, will probably set you back somewhere in the region of £5K-£8K. maybe more.. really depends on the scale of the site, and i've only glanced at that rankin site for about 3 - 5 minutes...

A non flash website, with a full image gallery, again, a content management system, will probably set you back about £2K-£4K...

this is what I would charge as a web developer for this type of website, and I'm probably on the cheap side!
