Question for Tim Deegan about memory foam beds

Hi Tim

I've said before I'm after a VERY comfortable 6 foot memory foam mattress/bed.

You've advised me that Tempur are not the best & that pocket sprung memory foam topped were, TBH I wasn't convinced, as I have a pillow topped Sealy sprung & its nice, actually its good, but its not amazing.

I loved the Tempur Celebrity, it has a 5cm layer of soft stuff (?) before the momory foam to make it really snuggly & soft. Price for mattress only £1,600

Went into dreams today with hubby & tried a Kaymed pocket sprung memory foam topped & it was very very nice, price with base with 4 drawers £1,900

http://www.dreams.co.uk/en-gb/ProductDetails/?cid=MEMORYFOAM-MAT&pid=153-00019&language=en-GB

Has some sort of soft base (unlike regular memory foam which need hard top bases), I've always had sprung top/edge divans & I do like them.

I'm looking to go up to £2000
Is there anything else I should look at?

I like a really soft, snuggly feeling top on the mattress. Both the Kaymed & the Tempur have that.
I want pure unadultered luxury.
I like my bed quite high too.

Hubby has a bad back, but hes OK with any good bed in the main. He had a major spine op on his discs a few years ago.

Thanks Tim for any words of wisdom, I was dead set against pocket sprung memory foam topped until today:o Now I'm more open minded, talking of open minded, would be great if it was NOT squeaky:o :D:rotfl:

If you read some of my other posts you would see that I am seriously against pillow top mattresses for two main reasons:
    1. The filling in pillow top mattresses may feel really comfortable when it is new. However when you have had it a while, and the fillings start to move about and leave you sleeping in a hollow.
    2. Having a pillow top makes the mattress one sided which means that it won't last as long.

    Only £1600 :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Do you really need to come on a money saving web site??

Seriously though, as I told you last time you asked about a soft memory foam mattress, memory foam mattresses shoud not be soft. All the 'soft stuff' as you call it will do is engulf you preventing your body cooling properly. It will also insulate the actual memory foam preventing your body heat reaching it. Memory foam needs your body heat in order to soften up and mould to your body.

Who told you that memory foam needs a platform top base........you havn't been listening to Dreams reps again have you??:rotfl:

Your sanity if you are going to pay that much for a bed from a company that tells you almost nothing about the spec.

As I have told you previously, if you want a soft mattress that gives excellent support, then you would be better off with pocket sprung only.

Pocket sprung mattresses shouldn't squeak because the springs are in their own individual pockets so can't rub together.

    Thank Tim

I'm sure you told me to go for a memory foam pillow top pocket sprung mattress.

No, I actually advised you to go for pocket sprung only because you wanted a soft mattress. You then said that you wanted memory foam. So I said that you should go for a pocket sprung /memory foam (not pillow top) mattress that was medium, as medium is the softest you should get in memory foam to still give you good support.

I think she meant, Mattress only, £1600, rather than mattress, ONLY £1600, a lack of punctuation can make all the difference to the meaning of a sentence.:rotfl:

Well the two I've liked are the Tempur, "the matress alone" £1,600 so a bit more for the base (about £300) too & the Kaymed on Monday £1,900.

So I figured the sort of one I want is going to be about that.

I don't want an OK bed, I don't want an average bed. I have a good bed. I want a bed that hugs you when you get in, a bed that you feel your aches of the day melt away into:D

    I'm getting confused

I thought a pocket sprung mattress that had a thick layer of memory foam on top, was called a pocket sprung, pillow topped memory foam?
I thought if the memory foam was just covering the springs as a layer & not solid foam, that it was a pillow top?

Do you not live near Tim? then you could go and try out his beds.

I don't know where Tim has his shop.

BUT I think its very nice of him as a person who "knows" about beds to come on here in his free time & give his advice.

I absolutely agree. I have just been reading another thread about him and his shop. I am very impressed.
