Struggling for sponsors so trying again

Right, this collecting sponsors is not as easy as I had 1st thought, so I am giving it a second shot .

On the 2nd August I will be doing a 10000 foot tandem sky dive in aid of BLISS. Bliss, the special care baby charity, was established nearly 30 years ago and continues to champion the care of our most vulnerable babies and their families. They are the only national organization dedicated to improving the survival and long-term quality of life for babies born too soon, too small or too sick to cope on their own. Having had my two son's preterm (oldest at 36 weeks and youngest at 32 weeks) this is a charity very close to my heart.

So far my money raising is not going as well as I had planned. Can anyone give me some advise on how to maximise my sponsorships. Should I write to local businesses etc? Also if I were to do say a sponsored car wash can I add this on to my jump money?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me

I'd imagine that it's fine for you to run some kind of event to fundraise and add that to your sponsorship. It's the kind of thing that people often do for challenges such as the international treks etc. The thing to make sure of is that anyone giving you money knows what it's for - especially if some of the money raised will be paying for the jump - as I imagine it will be.

Suggest also contacting Bliss, as they'll have a fundraising team that will be able to advise too.

    Good luck

    Hi,
I ran the 2007 Great South Run for BLISS as my daughter was born last May, 10 weeks early, and needed 10 weeks of Neonatal care with over a month in intensive care. I can definitely say that without BLISS donating a specialist cot to the unit that she wouldn't have made it so this is something very close to my heart.
If you, or your partner, work for a big company make sure that you email your story to the work distribution list - don't worry about offending anyone as it is amazing how many people have had similar stories or want to support.
BLISS might help you contact your local newspaper who might run your story as a local interest story.
My local NICU were also happy to put up a note on their parents board aswell but I had, and still do, a close relationship with them due to the rollercoaster ride we had with our daughter.
Hope this helps, but my best advice is to make you site and any emails as personal as possible - it helps people really understand why you are doing it. My site was www.justgiving.com/kevhewitt.

    Thanks
    Kev H

Thank you all for your ideas.

Today I decided I would e-mail as many local companies as I could. I ended up e-mailing around 50 and was delighted to receive 2 donations within an hour.

One was for £5.00, and the other a staggering £45.00 I am totally delighted :j. The latter is also offering me a free hypnosis session to help with my nerves. People are so nice sometimes.

might also be worth a psost on facebook / myspace etc.. and let people know about something actually worth taking part in, rather than the usual party / ego-boost stuff!

If you're employed, perhaps your employer might have some kind of charity scheme? My husband just did a cycle ride for charity and his company gave him £300. He just had to ask the right person!

Also, last year a colleague of mine did a fundraiser for a charity, which was essentially a party. She sold tickets for a couple of pounds, and I *think* got a restaurant to "donate" a whole floor as the venue. I think that floor/function room would otherwise have been empty, and as long as we were there partying we were going to be buying food and drinks, so it was worth their while. She and her friends managed to get donations towards an auction (dinner for two, a date with a guy, a basket of organic vegetables...) from various friends & family members and from their employers. If I remember correctly the auction raised about £1000 on its own.

    Good luck with your skydive!

Just looked and seen that you've had to postpone - what a shame. Still more time for collecting sponsorship.

I did a static line parachute jump or 6 when I was at Uni and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Jumping out the plane was nerve racking but the actual fall was fantastic. I loved the feeling of total detachment. I'm sure a freefall would be even better.
