I had one spanning about 1.5m (oval pole, not round) and only secured at the ends. No problems. You need a sturdy pole though or it will bend........0

Better buying one too long and 'adjusting' it with a hacksaw.0

Same here. Buy a longer one and chop the end off. The end is covered by the fixing so the cut bit won't show.0
