    Hello again everybody

I have been reading and researching so much material here since my last post and it's still a pain to try and get your head round the finer details and jargon, nonetheless I'm getting there slowly. Anyway, away from that and back to the real stuff. I will strike with a questions on one specific subject at a time henceforth.

At what point do the bailiffs/debt collectors come knocking at your door? I imagine you must have been notified in writing on various occasions, but 'official warnings' can just be devices to instill fear.

What are these people like, are they affable and understanding, or are they hostile, stone-face, ar#eholes? In keeping with this question, do you think they hated their line of work, and how they're a cog in destroying peoples lives?

Additionally, are they allowed to come to your place of work, or can they only come to your house?

debt doctors post in this thread and the fund of others I read across the boards have all been noted.

    Thank you

hi amvc i just been declared bankrupt two weeks agao after years of struggling with debt due to redundancy , death in the family ...

bailif usually come when you have a ccj and you have defaulted on it but it takes quite a few month.

however for council tax once they got a liability order against you and if you failed on your or their repayment plan they will pass you on str8 onto bailiff like me in this case .. t however i was just declared bankrutp so it stopped pretty much from there .

to be honest they are a bunch of ar**ehole they think they are above the law and we a bunch lazy slum b**tard ( sorry for the language). t

baillif are like DCA they act liek bully/ harass you in order to get out as much money as you can they do not respect the law ...

  • After being in debt myself and being made bankrupt this week i know how it feels, it destroys you and it becomes your whole life. I can see why people are drawn to do very silly things and this is why this site is a really important place for everyone in this situation. You will find more than enough info here.

    Good luck

The spiral of debt and circumstances leading to the BR courts stand either side of a very fine line in business.
My company ( and me & mrs TJ ) went down for over £130k. This was all due to a major company( Blue Chip !) deciding they did not want to pay us as per theterms of our contract.
Not only did it affect us but the 15 men (and their families) who were relying on us to employ them. We even went on a month after we should have to ensure they had money for Christmas and into the new year.

I`m not on here much these days but if you want to ask anything specific, I`ll keep my eyes open on here for the next week or so.

I`ll send my bill on later!!

Maybe if you do make a few bob at the film game , you would consider making a donation to one of the debt charities?

    Hi,

As said, there has to be court action before bailiffs can turn up, although 'distraint' can be used by inland revenue, local authorities and landlords without the court but that is extremely rare.

Bailiffs in general listen to no one and threaten powers they dont have and make unlawful charges.

I think most bailiffs are ok with what they do - they see themselves on 'the right side' Debt collectors are not bailiffs and have no powers at all, all they can do is ask you to pay.

With the exception of bailiffs collecting magistrates court fines, they can only initially gain peacful entry, which means if you keep your doors and windows locked, they cannot seize goods. They only get paid for a maximum of 2 visits ( £24 and £ 18 ) and are unlikely to come back after that if unsucessful. ( they dont get paid at all if they dont get in )

    Hope that helps

Firstly, thanks for the responses everybody, much appreciated.

tight jock, It was interesting to read your reply which led me to sift through all the threads you've started, whereby I discovered you are a family man.
I wanted to ask you if you had taken out a commercial mortgage or business loan of some description?
Inversely, if you don't mind, could you explain the totality of where your debts stemmed from, or was it purely from "Blue Chip" screwing you over?

    Thank you
