Central Heating Installation Quote (Nottingham)

I'm planning to have my current storage heating replaced by gas central heating. Just had a quote from British Gas for £4,250 - which seems like a lot. The property is a one-bedroomed flat and the quote includes removal of current system and installation of:
  • Worcester Greenstar 24i boiler
  • Wireless thermostat
  • Five rads with thermostatic valves
Is this way over the top - or about right?

Anyone know of any other firms (Nottingham/Derby) who are recommended?

Thanks to anyone who can help!

way, way OTT.. my quote was for a 3 bed terrace in Bristol, 2200 quid. Shop around or look up a few independents at www.trustcorgi.com

edit: an expansion of my quote: remove existing back boiler, install Vaillant combi, resiting of gas pipes to new boiler, removal of existing hot water tank, flush, regs, logbook, 8 new TRV's, wireless stat (no new rads)

i have also just had a quote from British gas to -
    - replace boiler (current one over 20 years old) with a new combi
    -take out water tank
    -take out existing flues
-add thermo valves to 13 radiators
    -put boiler in new place

Our quote was £3800 after all their discounts, I have a local plumber (found from the corgi website ) coming on wed so will wait and see what he quotes.
  • Hi Bozlite,

I live in Nottingham and had a full installation, new boiler, 8 rads, all new pipes etc, remote thermostat, in Jan 2007 for £4k.

I know this chap wasn't the cheapest quote but his quality of work was excellent.
He was reccomend to me by a friend and I have reccomended him to mate who had work done by Steve and he was pleased with the work.

Steve Keen Plumbing - Corgi registered 07980 633887

You may have to wait as he gets booked up

    Hope this helps

Thanks for that, Pete - a really useful lead. It really looks like BG are a lot ott.
  • We've had a quote from Vince Cox plumbers recently (found from the valiant website). Very resonable at under 2K for putting new combi boiler in loft, removing tanks, wireless thermostat, thermostatic valves, power flush etc.

Thanks to everyone who's replied so far - this is really an excellent way of getting a sense of what's fair and what's not!

Got a couple of local plumbers coming to quote in the next few days - will see what happens ...

I've just had a couple of quotes for the same work from local independents - both of them came in around the £2,300 mark; so the best part of £2,000 cheaper than British Gas! Very impressed with the care both took to explain everything to me.

Thanks to everyone for their advice! :T
